Hundred Celebrities Charity Sales

This year’s Art Revolution Taipei features a special charity program, hosting two events. One is “Hundred Celebrities’ Charity Sale” and the other one is “The Compassionate rich’s Charity Sale”. Proceeds from the sale of these artworks will go directly to the Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services. The organizer will leave the donated foundation to take charge of the proceeds and the receipts.

For the event of “Hundred Celebrities’ Charity Sale”, 500 celebrities from Taiwan and overseas are invited to create artworks about the size of 17.5 x 14 cm for the charity purpose. Each artwork will be priced at US$30. Each collector is allowed to collect two artworks at most. The name of the artist will be revealed to the collector only after they purchase the artist’s artwork.

Let the Artists Proudly “Prove Themselves”

Every artist all want to prove themselves, to say: “Yes, I can!” Yet it would take the artist not only quality and creativity, but also luck to be able to pull it off. Art Revolution Taipei is a stage on which stars shine and collectors hunt, and it is the place where artists from the world over can directly meet the challenge of the market.

This year’s A.R.T. will see a very demanding screening process for the selection of participating artists and their works. We firmly believe that when it comes to art there is no good or bad and there is no right or wrong; but an art exhibition is in and of itself an “enormous piece of art,” so being the art director I would have to make a lot of difficult choices.

Artists come to show their best works and art exhibition presents the best show, in a way we are all trying to prove ourselves - - Yes, we can!

The Russian Academy of Arts and X-Power Gallery present a display of paintings by Lee Sun Don, a world renowned master of painting from Taiwan. In 2008, he won over 40 international awards and became a member of 12 international art associations. To quote the artist himself, creative work for him is a spiritual and intellectual comprehension of mysteries of the Universe.

Lee Sun Don is a founder of a new “totem” art direction. He includes in his creative process “totems” – images symbolizing the wisdom of ancient civilizations. The master draws inspiration in the Chinese culture, literature and philosophy. In many of his canvases one can sense episodes and fragments from the Buddhist treatises. The artist’s paintings result from his tense inner work and thoughts of the world order.

The master uses his original style and medium, due to which his canvases embody a unique energy of the balanced Universe. They reflect a harmony between the heaven and earth and awaken the best human qualities: nobleness; yearning for perfection and mercy. Everyone who looks at his colorful paintings has a feeling of pacification.

In the single year of 2008 Lee has won forty honorable recognitions across the globe:

the World-Wide Competition 2008 of the 3rd Art (Painting) organized by World and Universal Academy in Netherlands (winning Grand Prize);

the RWS / Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in UK;

the Royal West of England Academy 156th Autumn Exhibition;

the L'Chayim Art Show in USA (wining 2nd Place);

four French International Autumn Salons.

His artwork has also been invited to exhibit in the museums and expositions of great renown: Russian Academy of Arts, Bankside Gallery in London, Shanghai Art Museum in China, Haggin Museum in USA, Museum of Kyoto in Japan, Gallery Gabrichidze in Belgium, Gallery Silver Brush in Finland, and Florence Biennale 2009 in Italy, just to name a few.

I know not much about Buddhism, but I enjoy Sun-Don's works very much. The artwork The King of Rulai Series 12 / Activate the Innate Nature to Meet Buddha (57" x 57", 145 x 145 cm) selected by Art #1 International Auctions Enterprise for Spring Auction in Hong Kong. Sold at the price of HK $ 5,750,000 (US $ 738,000), the highest of Taiwan's contemporary paintings.

2007 Dec. The artwork Freedom Beyond Freedom (51" x 64", 130x 162 cm) selected by Art #1 International Auctions Enterprise for Autumn Auction in Taipei. Sold at the price of US $ 570,000, the then highest of Taiwan's contemporary paintings.

Charity Auction

2009 May Two paintings donated for charity auction of "First Sichuan Earthquake Anniversary Fundraising" held in Shanghai, organized by Nobility Art Society. The proceeds go to Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation for rebuilding earthquake-damaged schools in Sichuan, China.

2009 Jan. Seven paintings donated for charity auction at the First Asian Art Top Show - 2009` Art Fair. All auction benefits went to Yellow Ribbon Project of China Charity Foundation, School of Foreign Language at Peking University, and Forshang World Foundation.

2008 Dec. One painting donated for charity auction at "2008 Annual Soiree" organized by Nobility Art Society. The auction proceeds went to Shanghai Wealove Foundation.

Following the 53rd Venice Bienalle, Lee Sun-Don 's sole exhibition will be hold at Galleria D'arte III Millennio, starting from 24 June, 2009 ~ 24 Sept. 2009; the theme is named " Time's Equal Sign ". What is the Time's Equal Sign? I believe what the artist's trying to say is that "what TIME equals to"?

Languages are communication tools, you learn different languages so that you can communicate with different people. Oil panting is a communication tool, too; by using colors and lines to represent the artist's inner thoughts, building interactive relationship with viewers.

TIME equals to SPACE and SPACE equals to TIME, the theory was brought up few years ago at Lee's buddhist study. He also mentioned that TIME has weight, yes! TIME HAS WEIGHT, for those who are interested, you may refer to the links as following for more information:
